FAFU — “Serial Theme Notorious B.I.G. Remix” — as described by chase porter

If you liked Serial (I did), you will definitely, maybe, probably not like this song actually. Please report back.

KENDRICK LAMAR - “Untitled” - as described by linnea rivano barros

Initially I chose ‘Ab Soul’s Outro‘ on Section.80 to share and review, hoping to get people to re-peep k dot’s first album, of course intending to work in his new track. But “Untitled”, “Multiply”, “We Don’t Die”, however it ends up labeled — it’s just too important. Yes, listen to Section.80. But if instead my encouragement fuels a thorough understanding of Kendrick’s latest poem, I will be very satisfied. Rap Genius helps.

BLAKE MILLS — “If I’m Unworthy” — as described by jackson wiley roach

This is maybe the only song I’ve ever heard that makes me giggle with joy. I didn’t know guitar moments could do that? The guitar moment at 2:48 makes me giggle with joy! Every time I listen to it, even though I know it’s coming, and even though I’ve heard it like a gabillion times before (I cannot stop listening to this song), I giggle with joy. If I committed a crime I would be tried as an adult, and yet I’m sitting in my car, giggling with joy. The life is full of pain, but you can come here and listen to this song, and hopefully it will make you giggle with joy.

AXEL FLOVENT — “Your Ghost” — as described by claire kim

In honor of our foregone December, 2014 & in expecting the loveliest springtime of our lives, 2015.

This song is my kind of winter wonderland - I hope that it may help you a little fall deeper asleep into your amazing little last minute winter dreams.

Wherever you were over winter break, I hope you all stayed safe and sound in the warmth of your loved ones, dreaming wonderful dreams, getting ready for another beautiful year in our lives.

We are here now, already. Happy New Year, folks!

HARRY CONNICK, JR. — “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off” — as described by kelsey dayton

Ideal holiday music has a cheerful simplicity- you can either sway and snap and sing it to your friends in the kitchen, or you can ignore it so that it just subtly buoys the conversation. “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off” is one of those clear snappy tunes. And the lyrics remind you not to let little things like differences in dialect distract you from how much you actually do love all these people you get to see this time of year. Just pour some Irish coffee, put on “When Harry Met Sally,” and have an erster.

GABRIEL KAHANE — “Griffith Park (2800 E. Observatory Ave.)” — as described by benina stern

A song about my favorite place to visit when home. A song that encapsulates that phenomenon when you go home and you notice all the changes in your city—the house across the street that added another floor, different tables in your favorite coffee shop, a new set of swings in your elementary school’s playground—but you can’t recognize them as changes, because the memories of how those places were before won’t leave your mind. A phenomenon that defines living in Los Angeles, that Gabriel Kahane beautifully explores in his album “The Ambassador.” There’s no place like home.

ST VINCENT — “These Days” — as described by elisabeth dee

Hopefully you’re familiar with St. Vincent, a “indie rock/cabaret jazz” band full of complex arrangements and polysemous lyrics, headed by the ethereal Annie Clark. Additionally, you’ve hopefully seen the Wes Anderson film The Royal Tenenbaums, a aesthetic dessert of moody Gwenyth Paltrow and salmon pink wallpaper. St. Vincent’s cover of “These Days” (originally sung by Nico) combines the best of both worlds- the crooning lovliness of Clark with the simple melody ofTenenbaums centerpiece song. Perfect for walking across campus on a chilly evening.

SLOW CLUB — “Christmas TV” - as described by beti girma

This is a holiday themed song that’s so good that I play it year round.

D’ANGELO — ¨Really Love¨ — as described by editor lawrence neil

D’Angelo is back. Black Messiah is a mumbling, soulful exhale fourteen years in the making, and it was worth the wait. Take a ride on the nimble jazz guitar and D’s ranging vocals in my favorite track of the album.

SISTER SLEDGE — “He’s the Greatest Dancer” — as described by editor bojan srb

The holidays can be a trying time for everyone with a head and feelings. However, few things can be as regenerative as dancing in one’s bathrobe to the disco tunes of this song. Get on up and remember: soon you’ll be on the outskirts of Frisco, cruisin’ with your favorite gang.

LANY — “ILYSB” — as described by editor-in-chief katharine schwab

Also known as “I Love You So Bad,” this one will keeps distracting me from back-to-school email, though I’m not amused by the group’s 3-song EP called “Acronyms” or fascination with capital letters. There’s also “BRB” and “(OMG),” which is trying way too hard to be clever or interesting. But I’ll give LANY a pass for “ILYSB” because it’s just so catchy.
