Annika is a British crime drama television series, based on the BBC Radio 4 drama Annika Stranded. Produced by Black Camel Pictures for Alibi and All3Media, the first episode aired on 17 August 2021. The series follows DI Annika Stranded as she takes over a new Marine Homicide Unit in Scotland. The radio series Annika Stranded was also written by Nick Walker and featured Nicola Walker as Annika Stranded but was set in Oslo.

Plot
A new specialist Marine Homicide Unit (MHU) is created to investigate the unexplained, brutal, and apparently unfathomable homicides that wash up in lakes and rivers across Scotland, led by DI Annika Stranded (Walker).

As she manages her brilliant yet unconventional team and her equally brilliant yet complex teenage daughter, Annika makes the audience her confidante by breaking the fourth wall and sharing her wry observations on the case and her own life.
Speaking about the role, Nicola Walker told What to Watch: “The show is set in Glasgow, and it’s a Marine Homicide Unit. It’s dangerous to bill it as a crime drama because it’s a lot more than that, and the unusual thing about it is that my character breaks the fourth wall constantly, so the audience is very much the other character in the show — you’re all in it too!”
