Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman tragically and unexpectedly passed away in August 2020 after suffering from colon cancer. The executives at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, and even the director Ryan Coogler were shocked and surprised with the demise. Following the death news, the future of Black Panther was in doubt. However, Feige confirmed that the project will move forward without Boseman.

Also, the character of T’Challa aka Black Panther will not be recast but the sequel will certainly arrive. Ryan Coogler, who directed the first film will return to direct the sequel. Winston Duke, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, and Angela Bassett confirmed in November 2020 that they will be returning for the sequel. Meanwhile, the reports have surfaced claiming that Michael B. Jordan is also going to return in the sequel.

Creed actor portrayed villainous Erik Killmonger in the first film. The characterization and performance of Jordan’s Killmonger played a major part to popularize Black Panther. Killmonger is a U.S. black-ops soldier who is also Black Panther’s cousin. N’Jadaka swore vengeance upon Wakanda upon his father death and intends to overthrow T’Challa and rule over the advanced country of Wakanda.

Michael B Jordan wants to return as Killmonger

There were rumours that the Marvel Studios is planning to bring back Killmonger in the sequel. When Black Panther asked Killmonger that he can be healed, he refused and mentioned that he wants to die as a freeman. For the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is always an answer, after all, it is a comic adaptation. Killmonger could be resurrected in the sequel or he may appear in the afterlife as T’Challa’s ancestors. The best way to feature him in the sequel is in flashbacks that lead to the new storyline. Narcos Mexico actor Tenoch Huerta is going to appear in antagonist role in the sequel for now.
