Popular American TV journalist and presenter Katie Couric will be seen guest hosting the game show Jeopardy! As per LA Times, Couric is confirmed to host the show for a week.
She formerly co-hosted Today, CBS Evening News, and has also been a correspondent in 60 Minutes. Couric has been a reporter-presenter for ABC, NBC, and CBS. She and other guest stars will be taking over for Alex Trebek, the original host, post his death in November.
About Alex Trebek
Alex Trebek was a Canadian American TV show host who presented a number of shows like The Wizard of Odds(1973), High Rollers(1974 and 1978), Double Dare(1976), and Battlestars(1984). He was most known for hosting Jeopardy! since 1984 which he was still hosting for 37 seasons.
As per the new contract he signed last year, he was set to host until 2022. However, he lost his two year long battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed on November 8. Post his death, former Jeopardy contestant Ken Jennings, Wheel of Fortune presenters Pat Sajak and Vanna White, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered their tribute.
Who Will Host The Show?
As per executive producer Mike Richards, Trebek had shot for episodes until the end of October. These episodes aired until January 8.
After that, the producers announced that it will feature guest hosts for the time being while they search for a permanent replacement for Trebek. Richards also said that Trebek loved the show and wanted it to continue after him.
Ken Jennings is guest hosting the show for now. He has been a part of the show for a long time. Episodes featuring him as the host will air on January 11. Katie Couric has also confirmed to host, so we could see a lot more people hosting for a while.
Neither Couric nor the producers have commented on whether they want Couric to host the show permanently. But there are chances that it could be one of the guest hosts. While it is more likely that Jennings could be the new face, it is too soon to tell who will be the one.
