The movie is based on the life of Kapil Dev where Ranveer Singh can be seen playing his role. The film also stars Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Basin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk, Pankaj Tripathi, Harrdy Sandu, and Boman Irani. The film has been in waiting for a long time.

In an Event, Reliance Entertainment and Virgin Media announced the film based on the World Cup won by India in 1983. The shooting of the film began on June 5,2021 in England. Earlier the movie was scheduled to release on 10 April 2020 but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the movie was postponed.
The release was again delayed to the first quarter of 2021. However, due to the second wave of Covid and theatres closed at that moment, the film was postponed. Finally, the movie is all set to release on December 24, 2021.

Before shooting the film 83, Ranveer Singh and the other cast were trained at a camp Dharamshala Cricket Stadium in the first week of April 2019 under the guidance of Balwinder Sandhu and Yashpal Sharma. Earlier some reports stated that the makers of 83 were offered 143 crores to release it on the OTT platform.
Clearing all the rumors, Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibashish Sarkar said “ There is no truth in this”. The makers and the directors are all on the same page and don’t want to hurry to release it. They can wait for the theatres to open. Also, the budget of the film is huge, and releasing the film on the OTT platform would not be a great option.
