Rifujin na Magonote’s famous series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is a Japanese light novel series about a jobless and miserable guy who, shockingly, mysteriously reincarnates in a fantasy world while retaining his memories, determined to enjoy his new life without any regrets.

On October 18, 2019, Manabu Okamoto revealed that the anime would be turned into a television series, directed by him and animated by Studio Bind, with Kazutaka Sugiyama designing the characters and Yoshiaki Fujisawa composing the soundtrack. Production is credited to Egg Firm. The show was supposed to launch in 2020, but it was postponed until January 2021.

The series follows an anonymous 34-year-old who gets evicted from his home after his parents die and fails to attend their burial. After some introspection, he came to the conclusion that his life was ultimately worthless, but in an attempt to do something significant for once in his life, he intercepts a speeding truck coming towards a gathering of kids and manages to pull one of them out of harm’s way before dying.

Also in the series, when he awakens in a baby’s body, he finds he has been reincarnated in a realm of sword and sorcery and vows to succeed in his new existence, abandoning his previous identity in favor of Rudeus Greyrat.

As Rudeus feels he has finally found his place in the world, his nation is destroyed by a major magical disaster, teleporting and stranding hundreds of thousands of people far from home – some into dangerous places or situations, where they die as a result of murder, war, execution, monster attack, or exposure to the elements.
