The Case Study of Vanitas, also known as Vanitas no Carte, is an anime adaptation of the manga of the same name. The manga is written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki. The manga was first released in December 2015. The anime adaptation premiered in July 2021. The show is directed by Tomoyuki Itamura and is produced by BONES Studio.
It is a mixture of dark fantasy, steampunk, and supernatural genres. It is a show that is slowly rising in popularity. On August 5, 2021, Funimation announced that the series would be dubbed in English. The dubbed version premiered on August 6, 2021.
Storyline
The story of ‘The Case Study of Vanitas’ is about vampires who are on the brink of extinction. It follows Noé Archivist, a young vampire in 19th Century France. He is hunting for the Book of Vanitas, which belonged to Vanitas. He was a rare vampire that was born on a blue full moon, and so ostracized by other red moon vampires.
In his hunt for the book, he meets Vanitas, a human who claims to be a doctor for the malnomen of vampires, which makes them predatory against their will. He also possesses the Book of Vanitas, which has the cure. They decide to join forces and cure the vampires, but with their alliance and adventure come stories of curses and salvation.
Main Characters
Noé Archivist is one of the main characters of the story. He is a young vampire who belongs to the Archivist clan, ‘The Fangs That Lay Bare Blood’. He has the power to read people’s memories after drinking their blood. He is sent by his teacher to France to get hold of the grimoire called the Book of Vanitas. He has a cat called Murr.
The second main character is Vanitas. He is a seemingly simple human who possesses the Book of Vanitas grimoire. Although human, he was bitten by the Vampire of the Blue Moon, and so possesses some vampire abilities. He belongs to the Blue Moon clan. He believes that the grimoire can help cure vampires of their curses, which make them lust uncontrollably for blood.
