Former Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev’s Quarantine Birthday Celebration

The former Soviet Union leader and secretary-general of the communist party. Mikhail Gorbachev turned 90 on 2nd March 2021. As the world Pandemic cases still in rising Gorbachev celebrated his 90th birthday in quarantine.

Gorbachev is one of the most known reformers of the 20th century. On his birthday wishes were sent to him from around the world by some of the prominent leaders.

The announcement about Gorbachev’s quarantine came from his spoke person for the Gorbachev foundation Vladimir Polyakov. He in a statement said, “He is in quarantine in hospital for the duration of the Pandemic.” Further, he added, “He is tired of his life like the rest of US.” Polyakov further confirmed that Gorbachev will celebrate his birthday with family and friends.

He has received birthday wishes from all the prominent leaders of the world including Joe Biden. Russian President Vladimir Putin too sent him warm wishes for his 90th birthday and appreciated his work. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the German chancellor Angela Merkel too wished Gorbachev. In order to celebrate his birthday with family and friends, he will connect to them through a video call.

The German chancellor Angela Merkel wrote a letter to wish the former Soviet union leader. The letter said “I take your day of honor as an opportunity to thank you once more for your personal commitment for the peaceful overcoming of the cold war and the completion of German unity.”

Merkel further added, “your important contribution to a reunification in freedom remains as unforgotten in Germany as your constant personal engagement for friendly relations between our two nations.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin too in his letter which later got published in the Kremlin. This is a critical newspaper owned by Gorbachev himself. In the letter, Putin said, “one of the most outstanding statesmen if modern times who made a considerable impact on the history of a nation in the world.” Putin also appreciated Gorbachev for his international humanitarian project on which he’s working.

Few of the Russians still criticize Gorbachev for the fall of the sovereign state. They think that Gorbachev is responsible for the collapse of the sovereign state. Which led to the economic meltdown and created political turmoil. Though Gorbachev is in quarantine and kept in the hospital he’s still actively working on editing books and articles the confirmation came from Polyakov.
