However, the event’s planners and Ukrainian authorities decided in light of Russia’s invasion. Hence, Ukraine could not securely host an event of this scale.

Sam Ryder from the UK came in second and decided that a UK city would host the event instead. According to British organizers, the pan-continental festival will still celebrate Ukrainian culture and talent.

A second chance was there for the previous year’s winners to perform. As Kalush Orchestra commented, “Playing in the same area that The Beatles began will be a memory we’ll never forget.”

Although we are disappointed that the competition cannot be held in our country next year, we are confident that Liverpool’s residents will be kind hosts. And the organizers will be able to give Eurovision 2023 a truly Ukrainian flavor.
