COVID 19 Surge Begins to Overwhelm Hong Kong

Hong Kong: Hong Kong’s leader on Tuesday stated that a surge of Coronavirus is overwhelming the city’s emergency resources but now strict measures have been imposed.

We all know how the covid 19 pandemic hit everyone in the world. Despite many measures, many countries are still struggling hard to get it over with every wave that is hitting. Though the vaccinations are out, we must not be careless about the deadly virus that is around us. The situation of Hong Kong is very perilous. It is now facing its fifth wave. Let us know how the situations are.

Carrie Lam who is the chief executive stated that the Chinese central government has been extending help in the city, which remains a nominally autonomous enclave. Despite of its varying success, Hong Kong has stuck with China’s zero-tolerance strategy which requires lockdown, quarantines, and mass COVID testing.

Lam gave a statement to the reporters that “So far, our measures to contain the spread of the diseases remain legitimate and valid.” He also stated that ” The problem that we are facing is given the magnitude, the pace of and the severity of this fifth wave. It has outgrown our capacity.”

At present, the city has reported 2,071 new cases on Monday, with that number expected to be doubled on Tuesday with more than 4,500 positive identities. He also stated that authorities will designate as quarantine points new public housing units that have yet to be occupied with along 10,000 hotel rooms. Hong Kong wants confirmed coronavirus patients to isolate themselves.

The city’s restrictions extend to limiting in-person get-togethers to more than two households, allowance of only vaccinated people in shopping malls and supermarkets and closing the holy places for worship, the closing of salons and other businesses.
Authorities have also imposed lockdowns on the residential buildings wherever clusters of infections are found. They have also banned public dining after 6 p.m. schools have extended a suspension of in-class teaching until march 6 till then classes will be done online.
Lam also stated that China’s central government is working to enhance the capacities at various parts of this anti-epidemic effort, But ruled out placing Hong Kong under a complete lockdown as has been done in various Chinese cities, where millions of residents have been restricted to stay indoors for months.
