Chicago receives a winter storm warning as layers of snow continue to cover some areas. Weather reports accumulate that the residents should have to be prepared for the necessary alternatives and other additional advisories or warnings.
According to the weather news, intense snow could be expected from the storm likely to happen in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. The storm is highly assumed to hit the south, leaving behind the northern areas. Heavy snowfall is predicted to occur on Tuesday night, following into Wednesday morning. The snowfall rate could be 1 inch per hour, leading to travel issues. Residents have to avoid unnecessary travel and might have to postpone.
The concerns could follow into Thursday, and residents can see up to 10 to 20 inches of snow. If this occurs, another 3 to 6 inches could fall in areas of the winter storm warning.
Winter Storm Warning: Areas under
Indiana counties such as Lake, Jasper, Kankakee, Porter and Newton will be under the winter storm warning from 10 PM Tuesday up to Wednesday afternoon. Those areas could accumulate up to 15 inches of snow.
Northern Cook counties, as well as Will counties, are under warning from Tuesday, 8 PM to Wednesday 6 PM. The same follows for Grundy, DuPage, De Kalb, La Salle, Kendall and Kane.
Snowfall Totals and Measures to be Taken
Parts of Chicago could experience several inches of snow. Starting off with low temperatures in the 40s, showers are expected to happen between mid to late afternoon. After that, rain could presumably turn into snow late at night on Tuesday. Snow could stack up more on the South side than the rest of the city, possibly getting to see 8 inches of snow while with the North, 4-5 or even less is expected.
Trips could be taken only with certain measures. They are advised to keep space while driving, and always carry an emergency kit. According to Chicago’s office of Emergency Management and Communications, everyone should have a full tank of gas, and let their family or friends know where they are going.
