Love Is War is a Japanese comic series written by Kaguya-sama. “Lady Kaguya wants them to confess: The Geniuses’ War of Hearts and Minds” is a manga series by Akasaka set in Japan. In May 2015, it began publication in Shueisha’s seinen manga magazine Miracle Jump, and in March 2016, it was moved to Weekly Young Jump. Viz Media has licenced manga in English in North America.
Akasaka was working on a new series for Young Jump after finishing the manga Instant Bullets. According to Akasaka, the initial plot for Kaguya-sama was more of a fantasy and game of death, but his editor wanted something more mainstream, and Young Jump didn’t have a casual rom-com series at the time. It was Akasaka’s first attempt at a rom-com.
The series was set in high school because Akasaka had little experience with dating and romance at the time. While smoking some food, he was thinking about high school relationships and came up with the idea of wanting to regain some of his childhood emotions in a fantasy.
About the Series:
In the series, the names of the characters were taken from The Bamboo Cutter. He was a big fan of princess stories, and Kaguya-hime was one of the most well-known. He noted that when he was creating the characters, Kaguya and Miyuki had the same attitude and thought process as twins, which made their exposition to the reader simpler to comprehend. Between the two, he established further divergence.
Also in other chapters, the other characters were built in the same way, starting out shallow and template-like but eventually becoming realistic and drawn from the author’s and others’ experiences. He was particularly fond of individuals whose personalities differed from how they were portrayed on the outside.
Akasaka stated that he intended to create a comic to assist office ladies to unwind, but since he is an otaku, it appears to go in that direction. He also believes that the manga is more about entertaining the reader and communicating profound themes about human relationships than it is about displaying a variety of character gags and reactions.
