To fight these monsters a Japanese Defense Force was introduced.  At first, when monsters started attacking the city, two childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro decided to join the defense unit after growing up and protecting their city. Mina succeeded in joining the force but Kafka failed the test several times.

Kafka manages to get himself a job as a person who gets rid of the dead bodies of these monsters that have been defeated. One day while Kafka was getting rid of the dead bodies, a monster flies into the mouth of Kafka. His body goes through changes enhancing supernatural powers within him and turns him into a monster named “Kaiju No. 8”.
