The original version of The Circle franchise, The Circle is a British reality television game show. The Circle, produced by Studio Lambert and Motion Content Group and airing on Channel 4, positions itself as a game based on social media with the concept that “anyone can be anyone”.Throughout the show, contestants live in the same apartment building but are not allowed to interact. The show is narrated by Sophie Willan, whereas the first and last episodes of the first series were hosted by Maya Jama and Alice Levine (later replaced by Emma Willis from the second series onward).
Plot
All of the contestants (“players”) live in a refurbished block of flats in Salford. Series 1 was filmed in London. The contestants do not meet face-to-face during the competition, living in separate flats and communicating through messaging devices. Message profiles can be created as a representation of the player or as someone else. One profile can be shared by multiple players: One profile can be played by multiple players with some slight differences so that messages can be sent to one or the other.
Throughout the game, players rate each other. The players in series 1 rated each other from 1 to 5. The average scores were revealed at the end of the rating process. The players rank the other players after the first series. When a selected player becomes an “influencer”, they are liable to block or eliminate other players (known as “eliminations” or “blocking”).

Occasionally the rules are altered, such as blocking the lowest rating players, withholding the identity of the influencer, or blocking multiple users at once. In the event that a blocked player remains in the game, they only have a chance to meet one remaining player briefly. New players are normally substituted for blocked players.
Each contestant rates the other one last time during the final, and the one/s with the highest rating wins the series. In series 1, it was £50,000, in series 2, it was £70,000, and in series 3, it was £100,000.
