The 2020 Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai anime is based on Riku Sanjo’s manga series with the same name. It is written and illustrated by Koji Inada and is based on the popular video game franchise Dragon Quest.
It was published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump, with chapters collected in 37 tankobon volumes from October 1989 to December 1996. Toei Animation produced an anime series based on the manga, which aired on TBS from July 1991 to July 1992.
In September 2020, a prequel manga series began in V Jump, and in October 2020, a spin-off manga series began in Saikyo Jump. After Dragon Quest: Legend of the Hero Abel, it is the second anime adaptation based on the Dragon Quest franchise. In October 2020, a second anime adaptation aired on TV Tokyo.
Plot
The plot revolves around the resurrected Dark Lord Hadlar, who was defeated in a previous war, his attempts to conquer the world, and the heroes’ battle against him.
The story of Dai and his mission to be a hero begins to save the world. In the hands of a swordsman known as the “hero” and his comrades, the world that was previously tormented by Hadlar, the Dark Lord, has recovered peace.
Delmurin Island was transformed into a haven for monsters released by the Dark Lord. Dai, the island’s solitary human who aspires to be a hero, coexists peacefully with the monsters. With the resurrection of the Dark Lord Hadlar, however, that life is radically transformed. With promises from teachers, chance encounters with friends and an unavoidable fate.
