Tyler Perry Slammed for RACIST Speech at Oscar for Support Police Brutality

This year’s Oscars was certainly a different one compared to past years in almost every aspect. The ceremony concluded successfully, but the public had mixed reactions following the conclusion of the event. Nomadland, a western-drama starring Frances McDormand won the Best Picture at the 93rd Academy Awards. Fans had hoped the late actor Chadwick Boseman to receive the Best Actor, but the actor lost to Anthony Hopkins.

Boseman’s loss to Anthony Hopkins triggered the Oscars to receive huge backlash from the fans. Tyler Perry also attended the ceremony and made headline all over the internet for his inspiring speech. Fans are divided over his comments during the speech while accepting the recognition from Academy. Viola Davis presented the entertainer with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award during the ceremony for his humanitarian contributions.

Perry asked the world to refuse hate and refuse blanket judgement. He mentioned that his mother had taught him to refuse hate in the community. The 51-year-old actor also recalled his homeless life and how his mother grew up in the Jim Crow South. He hoped that people would refuse hate, since he refuses to hate someone if they are Black, Asian, LGBTQ, or simply a police officer.

Perry called people to come together and put their differences aside

The stars attending the ceremony were moved with his inspiring speech and even gave a standing ovation. However, when he mentioned refusing to hate if someone is police officer the applause faded away. His inclusion of police officers among others raised eyebrows on the internet following the ceremony. People didn’t like the idea of putting police officers between other Americans who had faced actual discrimination.

Some people even slammed the inspiring speech claiming as a racist speech. One wrote that Perry labeled the police officers as a race or ethnicity who doesn’t deserve hate like the other ethnic groups. While there were many who criticized Perry’s speech, a notable group of people went on to appraise for his inspiring speech. Meghan McCain said that Perry is such a kind and genuine human being. She also added that she was moved with the beautiful acceptance speech.
