Will there be a renewal?
Ragnar and his tale has ultimately come to an end. For those of you waiting for the renewal of Vikings, there won’t be any further extensions. Season 6 was the final season.
Here is what the maker Michael Hirst has to say about this, “I always knew where I wanted the show to go and more or less where it would end if I was given the opportunity. What I was trying to do was write the saga of Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. After six seasons and 89 episodes, that’s what I felt — finally — I’d done. We stopped shooting the final episode in November last year and I felt that I’d said all I needed to say about Ragnar and his sons. I told my saga.” (Reported by Variety)
Well, this might be pretty disheartening for all the fans out there. But there’s something good as well. Vikings will come up with a sequel/spin-off, that is, Vikings: Valhalla. It is an upcoming Netflix Original Historical Drama. It is written by Michael Hirst along with Jeb Stuart. Production of this began in 2020 however due to Covid-19 it had to be stopped. There is no official statement yet from the makers as to when it will be released.
