Emmy Award Winning Show Schitt’s Creek ‘Rosebud Motel’ is Up for Sale!

The Rosebud Motel, which was featured in every episode of the comedy classic Schitt’s Creek, is now available for purchase. It is expected to sell for $1.6 million in the United States. Although, it has been confirmed that the motel will be sold without the Rosebud sign.

The series followed the affluent Rose family as they were robbed of their fortune and forced to start a new life in the remote county of Schitt’s Creek, a property that is bought for David by his father Johnny Rose as a joke. It was written by and starred Dan Levy and his father, Eugene, as well as Annie Murphy and Catherine O’Hara.

The Rosebud Motel is Originally called Hockley Motel

The original name of the building is Hockley Motel, which is located in Mono, Ontario, about 50 miles northwest of Toronto. The building was used as accommodation for Canadian basketball recruits until Schitt’s Creek success which gave the motel a second life, thanks to Netflix. Although the show’s outdoor scenes were shot at the Hockley motel, the indoor scenes were allegedly shot in studios in the Toronto area.

The 10-room motel is located on 2.7ha (6.7 acres) of land along Hockley Road, about 90 minutes from Toronto, and is 400 square metres in size (4,300 square feet). A two-story “manager’s suite” and a separate cottage are also included. The land is surrounded by trees and backs up to the Nottawasaga River, which is known for its rainbow trout.

Rose’s Mansion shown in Schitt’s Creek’s first episode is also in the Real- Estate Market.

The selling of the actual motel comes less than two months after the sale of the other big location in the series, the mansion that served as Rose’s repossessed home in the first episode’s opening scenes.

The mansion, a glitzy structure in Toronto’s posh St Andrews-Windfields neighbourhood with 12 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms, marble stairs, Sistine Chapel-inspired frescoes, and carved limestone exterior, was originally advertised for C$14.98 million, but was later extended to C$19.98 million.

Unlike the mansion, the motel’s real estate listing makes no attempt to hide its popularity. The motel was not only used in the filming of Schitt’s Creek, but was also used in an episode of The Umbrella Academy which is a Netflix superhero TV series.

Jesse Tipping, the current owner, paid $820,000 for the property in 2012. He said the next owner should transform the place into a Schitt’s Creek-themed motel.
