Johnny Depp Says, Keira Knightley Was “Too Young” for Him, Sparks Another Controversy

Johnny Depp is a brilliant actor and there’s no doubt about it. But, at the relationship front, he has experienced a fair share of troubles. He is still having legal battles with his former wife, Amber Heard, with whom he divorced back in 2016. Depp has always caught himself in the series of controversies. While still working for Pirates of the Caribbean movies, he once claimed that Keira Knightley was too young for him.

The 57-year-old actor portrayed Jack Sparrow in the popular swashbuckler film series, Pirates of the Caribbean since 2003. Meanwhile, Keira Knightley played the daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann, Elizabeth Swann and is the leading lady in the film series. They both did quite an outstanding work in bringing life to these fantasy characters and fans have always loved them in movies together.

Knightley was just 17 years old at the time when she filmed her first Pirates movie opposite Depp in 2003. Depp was reportedly 20 years or so older than her. There is a scene in the film where these actors’ characters kiss each other. Fans quickly wondered what it is like to kiss each other when there is such a huge age difference. Depp told that kissing a younger girl like Knightley felt strange and awkward.

However, Knightley didn’t mind kissing the veteran actor. Since she got to kiss both Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, she felt that it was fantastic and wonderful. As for Depp, he admitted that the actress was too young for him. He told Vanity Fair that kissing someone without being on a relationship is strange and kissing scene with Knightley certainly felt awkward since she was 20 years younger than him.

Depp went on to marry a younger actress, Amber Heard, than Knightley and is currently involved in continued legal battles with her.
