Teer means arrow and the betting game is based on the archery. Archery has been immensely popular in the region, especially among the Khasi Tribe in Meghalaya for centuries. Some of the finest archery athletes origins from the same region in India. Locals believe that the lottery game existed in the region since the 20th century. However, the Government of India banned betting games until the early 1980s.
The state of Meghalaya passed the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax (Amendment) Act in 1982 and legalised Teer betting since then. Teer betting has been a good source of revenue in the eastern state of Meghalaya in India.
How does the Teer betting work?
Teer betting games have a simple rule. The lottery buyer has to guess the last two digits of the total number of arrows that hit the target on that day. For example, if 1546 arrows hit the target today, then the winner Teer number is 46. Participants buy lottery tickets from INRs. 1 to 100 and place a bet from number ranging from 0 to 99 from 10 am in the morning to 3.30 pm. Archers shoot arrows sometime in the afternoon and the organizers declare result at 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm local time.
