Shazam!’s sequel titled, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is reportedly on the works. DC Fandome 2020 revealed several details about the upcoming DC projects, but the Shazam’s panel was silent. Zachary Levi, who portrays the titular superhero revealed in the recent interview that they are going to commence filming next year.
Shazam hit theatres in 2019 as the seventh instalment in the DC Extended Universe. The super comical take of the superhero story received widespread appreciation from the fans and critics. The movie also became the box office successful New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers. The Conjuring director David F. Sandberg directed the film from the screenplay by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke.
The superhero film follows an orphaned teenager Billy Baston who gets the power from the wizard. Baston transforms into a powerful adult superhero Shazam, just by uttering a word — Shazam. Then, he, along with other foster home siblings, comes together to save the city from supervillain Dr Thaddeus Sivana and demons, The Seven Deadly Sins.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the official title of the sequel
After grossing $366 million at the box office worldwide, New Line Cinema ordered a sequel. The production company even scheduled an April 1, 2022 release date. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, which led to suspended the film industry, New Line Cinema delayed the release date to November 4, 2022. The reports claimed that Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix will take the Shazam’s release date.
Although the filmmakers didn’t reveal much about Shazam’s sequel, the director Sandberg confirmed Shazam 2 title — Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Zachary Levi recently made an appearance at on Dan Fogler’s 4D Xperience and talked about the upcoming sequel of Shazam. He mentioned that the production company were happy with the numbers (box Office). Due to this, the studio is very much eager to bring the sequel. The cast and crew will reunite to work on the sequel on the first quarter of 2021.
