Growing up in a Caribbean household, you have to know how to move. My grandma said when I was a toddler I used to “dirty dance” in the backseat of the car to Waterfalls by TLC. I chose this song because Dancehall is an industry dominated by men and Spice is one of the few females representing. Plus, she’s the embodiment of almost every Caribbean woman: blunt and confident af.

Nicole Phillips ('18, Urban Studies, Multimedia Editor) started writing at the exceedingly awkward age of twelve. When not overanalyzing her writing, she enjoys spending time with friends, baking, and making loud cat noises.
