Sony says it is ready to investigate Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Sony seems to be attempting to influence the Competition rhetorically regarding the final decision of CMA. Markets Authority’s and UK’s Competition thus prepare to assess Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard in the UK.

Warning From CMA

The CMA warned last month that it would launch a secondary. Hence it is after an assurance from Microsoft. Further, a thorough inquiry with Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard if it didn’t receive some prompt guarantees from that company.

Microsoft believed there were few further assurances it could make to satisfy the CMA. Other than a pledge from Xbox CEO Phil Spencer to sustain the platform for a considerable time once the present Sony contracts expire. 

Five days later, the CMA made an announcement. Additionally, the statement is that it would proceed with a more thorough acquisition investigation. Thus cite the Call of Duty as a critical area of disagreement.

The CMA also makes it plain that it is concerned about Sony’s gaming investments. Further, it is by explicitly mentioning the business in its assessment. And stating that Sony would be the principal competitor. 

This behavior would damage it in the short-to-medium term. The CMA doesn’t seem as concerned about how the merger will impact Nintendo.

Comments by Sony

Sony commented once more. Business expresses their appreciation for the disclosure. And the decision to give Microsoft control over Activision titles like Call of Duty. The future of the gaming industry, as well as gamers, would be severely harmed by this agreement. The CMA is investigating the Microsoft and Activision merger.

Microsoft and Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick expect the acquisition to be approved. On schedule despite Sony’s preemptive praise of the ongoing CMA inquiry into the Activision merger.
