F1 has announced that it had canceled the Russia Grand Prix after the events in Ukraine, drivers call for a boycott.

News in Detail

Sebastian Vettel who is Former F1 world champion was the first driver to boycott the Russian Grand Prix, but others have followed his suit since. F1 driver, Max Verstappen has also given his contribution in the moment. And it looks like F1 is on the same page, as it has announced that it has canceled the upcoming Russia Grand Prix.

F1 wrote in a statement that “The F1A Formula 1 world championship all over the world with a positive vision to unite people, bringing nations together.” They also stated that “We are watching the developments in Ukraine with sadness and shock and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the present situation.

On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA and the teams discussed the position of our sport and the conclusion is, including the view of all relevant stakeholders, that it is impossible to hold the Russian  Grand Prix in the current circumstances.”

Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine is the first large-scale attack on a European nation in well over 70 years. It is a very surprising turn of events that many thought would only center around only the two regions, Donetsk and Luhansk but turned to full-scale invasion as of the morning of Wednesday.

Russia was all set to host a Formula One event in the fall.

Vettel also stated that,” I should not go, I will not go.” He also stated “People are being killed for stupid reasons. A very strange and mad leadership. Innumerable missiles and bombs have been raining down on an entirely innocent population. A vast invasion is underway, by land, by sea, and by air.”

Vettel stated that,” In my personal opinion, obviously I woke up again this morning’s news and i was shocked. I think it’s horrible to see what is happening and obviously, if you look at the calendar we have a race scheduled in Russia. For myself, my opinion is I should not go, I will not go. I’m really shocked and sad to see what’s going on. We will see going forward, but i think my decision is already made.”
