Indian Cinema has always been accused of bad filmmaking. Making bad movies for the masses and then profiting from the old toxic cultures and traditions like patriarchy. They have been accused of making movies that are not even near political art. But it was not always like that.

When cinema started in India, directors were experimenting with cinema. They were experimenting with new genres and new styles of film makings. That’s why we have moves like payasa and Apu Trilogy. That’s why we have movies like Mughal Azam and Do Bigha Zameen. And it was political too.

But in the late 1900s, a new wave started. This was the wave of mediocracy. Movies like Dilwale dulhania le Jayenge, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Ha and many more.
