All Publix Employee to Mask Up Again amid Rising COVID Cases in Florida

The relief was short-lived as due to the rising COVID Cases in Florida, the Supermarket Giant Publix has ordered all its employees to mask up again. The order will take effect from Monday, 2nd of August which will require all Publix employees to wear face masks regardless of their vaccination status.

This decision was made in light of the rising surge of COVID cases in Florida which is one the highest when compared to other states in the US. Publix’s spokeswoman, Maria Brous said in a statement, “We encourage all to do their part to slow the spread of COVID-19.” This order will take effect in all of Publix’s 1,273 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and the Carolinas.

According to data released by CDC, it shows that Florida record the 4th highest single-day COVID cases since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. This is more alarming when considering the fact Florida only represents about 6.5% of the US’s population but is accounting for the country’s 20.4% of new cases.

CDC has announced that anyone who is fully vaccinated does not require to wear a mask outside. This announcement has caused the public to be lax on COVID-related precautions. And when combined with the low vaccination rate of Florida resulted in the rise of COVID cases.
