Russia to Launch its Own Space Station in 2025

Russia is planning to launch its own space station by 2025. Here’s all the latest updates that you would like to know about it.

Russia’s Own Space Station

Russia is all set to start building its own space station in full flow. This was announced by Russian space agency Roscosmos on Tuesday (April 22, 2021). Moscow is planning to withdraw from the International Space Station program.

When asked about the work, Dmitry Rogozin, chief of Roscosmos said that work has begun already on the first module of the space station.

Here’s what he said: “The first core module of the new Russian orbital station is in the works.” 

The ISS was launched in 1998. It had co-operation between Russia, the US, Japan, Canada, and the European Space Agency. ISS (International Space Station) is one of the most finest and thoughtful international collaborations ever made. ISS is currently in the orbit.

When asked about the decision of quitting the ISS program, Roscosmos said: “When we make a decision we will start negotiations with our partners on forms and conditions of cooperation beyond 2024.”

Working and Launch

This new venture is also the result of growing tension between Russia and US over spying and surveillance issues. There has been news of cybersecurity attacks. Also, to cite another reason it will the imprisonment of President Vladimir Putin’s critic Alexei Navalny (Russia’s opposition leader) who health is deteriorating day-by-day.

Russia to Launch its Own Space Station in 2025

Talking about the first module, Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin said that Russia’s Energia space corporation is planning and aiming to make the first module “ready for launch” by 2025 at the earliest. Along with it he also shared a video of Energia staff at work.

This project will make new history as it will put an end to age-old cooperation with the United States. The ISS will come to an end on Russia’s side. At the same time, it will mark a new chapter, dawn for Russia’s space exploration.

“If in 2030, in accordance with our plans, we can put it into orbit, it will be a colossal breakthrough. The will is there to take a new step in world manned space exploration,” said Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin.

Russia is planning to invest $6 Billion on this project only for its launch.
