Department of Justice in America recovered over 23,000 guns that had no serial number printed on it. This was due to the loopholes that are present in the American administration. This not only increases the ratio of gun crimes in but also lets the criminals take advantage of these opportunities. America has witnessed several mass shooting incidents, this also includes the mass killing that took place at a grocery store, in which almost 10 people were killed.
Biden Administration’s Attack On ‘Ghost Guns’.
These guns are termed as the ‘ghost guns’. The aim of the Department of Justice is to reduce gun crimes in America and to stop criminals from taking advantage of these loopholes. This will not only allow the government and the law enforcement agencies to trace the firearms that are owned by the Americans. The Department of Justice has proposed a rule which requires the gun-making kits to print a serial number on the fire weapons.
The weapons that doesn’t have a serial number are produced by small scale industries at home. This weapon are sold and purchased without any background check. The loophole which is was there present in the administration also let people who were denied weapons to produce weapons on their own.
Merrick Garland the Attorney General gave his view pint on the matter.
His statement was –
“We are committed to taking commonsense steps to address the epidemic of gun violence that takes the lives of too many people in our communities, criminals and other barred from owning a gun should not be able to exploit a loophole to evade background checks and escape detection by law enforcement this proposed rule would help keep guns out of the wrong hands and make it easier for law enforcement to trace guns used to commit violent crimes, while protecting the right of law-abiding Americans. Although this rule making will solve only one aspect of the problem, we have an obligation to do our part to keep our families and our neighborhoods safe from gun violence.”
National Rifle Association says that this steps will effect the American firearms industry very badly. In a ceremony at a Rose Garden ceremony in April said-
They’ve offered plenty of thoughts and prayers…but they’ve passed not a single new federal law to reduce gun violence, enough prayers. Time for some action.”
