Lionel Richie is a Singer, Musician and songwriter. He is also currently one of the judges on American Idol since 2018. He was part of a band called Commodores which produced funky music, later in the 1980s he went solo and gained more fame. He wrote and sang love theme ballads. He had a solo career and debut album, which was titled after his name and had only 3 songs, in the same year 1982.

In his career, he has won a total of 4 Grammy, 1 Academy Awards and 1 Golden Globe Awards. He also wrote a song with Michael Jackson named ‘We are the World’. He has 10 studio albums which include some more hits. The last album was released in 2012 and made to number one on the Billboard charts.

The Mercedes Dealership:

After getting a break for the band in the early times, all the bandmates decided to spend the amount of money on 6 luxury cars in the 70s. Therefore, Lionel Richie went to a car dealership in Alabama for that purpose. He wasn’t paid any attention and no one approached him. He said in the interview that, finally an employee came over and asked him to leave if he wasn’t there to buy anything.

In the same interview, Lionel also recalls his moment of most regret that he didn’t perform the song ‘Endless Love’, the song that won him an Academy Award, again after the Oscars with Diana Ross in 1981. The hit song was started out as an instrumental and was on the top charts for a long 9 weeks. The duet was recorded between the hectic schedule of both the stars in Canada.

They only got to duet it once. After that, the song has never been performed by them together. They also have never shared the stage together any other time. He says that they could never get their schedules together and it would be one of the things he would miss about the music career.
