Doctor Strange 2: Robert Downey Jr. will return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The 2016 movie Doctor Strange gave a new ‘dimension’ to the entire Marvel Cinematics Universe. Until then, most MCU movies had the element of science and politics, but very few had that otherworldly or magical experience.

The Infinity Saga which comprises the first three phases has only Thor movies of that kind. We would have also included Captain Marvel and Guardians of The Galaxy but the alien element puts it under science.

Doctor Strange was received well by the fans, leaving us waiting for another movie to see more of Benedict Cumberbatch and the mystical hero. We did see more of him – a bit in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. But a solo movie is what shows this character in its full glory.

Now that we would get to see one, a number of theories are surfacing the internet, which suggests that Robert Downey Jr. could be back as the Iron Man in the movie.

RDJ and Iron Man

Iron Man was certainly one of the most loved characters in the MCU. It basically set the whole saga, being the first MCU film in 2008. In a journey of more than a decade, Robert Downey Jr. played the larger-than-life Tony H. Stark and his heroic alter ego. The character largely featured in the movie series, with three solo movies and four Avengers movies.

RDJ also appeared as Stark/Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War and Spiderman: Homecoming. He is yet to appear in the prequel movie Black Widow. While we know that the character was killed off in the Avengers: Endgame movie, there could be possibilities, according to fans, that he could be back in action.

Possibilities of Returning

As per one theory, in the Doctor Strange Sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we could see a Tony Stark from another universe. The character could take an entirely new personality if it happens. Maybe this Iron Man won’t be a good guy. Or they would keep him a good guy but the change would be noticeable, like Peter B. Parker in Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse.

The Multiverse Concept was teased a few times in the previous MCU films which is now unfolding further since the casting of the third Spiderman movie. Apart from the alternate Stark, another speculation says that he would return as the A.I. support to Peter Parker in that movie.

Another possibility is that Stark would be from the past. Since the Black Widow movie is set before the ‘Endgame’ part, Tony could fight crime in the Doctor Strange Sequel. They did it with the stones in the Endgame, and even Nebula, so why not the Iron Man?

What Is Sure About The Doctor Strange Sequel?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to release in March 25, 2022. Since the third Spiderman movie will release before that, in December 2021, the movie will have connections with it. This is pretty much a no-brainer.

Benedict Cumberbatch will be returning as Dr. Stephen Strange, the sorcerer. Also, Elizabeth Olsen will return as Scarlet Witch and Benedict Wong as Wong. Olsen’s return would connect WandaVision with the movie. Rachel McAdams returns as Christine and there is a new character, America Chavez, to be played by Xochitl Gomez. Gomez is known for playing Dawn in The Baby-Sitters Club series.

Apart from this, the time stone also exists, on which Strange would research on. Chiwetel Ejiofor is returning as Mordo, who turned evil since his disillusionment about the Ancient One in the 2016 movie.
