James Gunn is loved for directing famous superhero movies like the Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, for the upcoming movie The Suicide Squad, he seems to have changed sides to for the moment to the DC Extended Universe. At the DC FanDome Convention, which he and his cast members including Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, etc. he unveiled the first-look pictures and footage from his latest DC comic movie.
Together with Gunn’s sense of comedy, the upcoming movie is said to be a 1970s war movie. “The Suicide Squad” is a standalone sequel to the 2016 “Suicide Squad” movie which was directed by David Ayer.
In fact, Margot Robbie became quite famous for playing the role of Harley Quinn in the 2016 Suicide Squad.
Some characters shall reprise their roles in the upcoming movie
Obviously, it was a blockbuster movie that gained over $740 million globally. Gunn is supposedly carrying over some characters from the 2016 movie to the upcoming movie. Margot Robbie’s Harley, Jai Courtney’s Boomerang are some of those characters.
What will happen in The Suicide Squad? No one knows about that till now. It is supposed to be a soft reboot of the 2016 Suicide Squad movie.
Still, regarding the story, a few speculations say that it will quite different. There will be new additions to the cast like John Cena, Elba, Pete Davidson, and Nathan Fillon and more.
Some rumours said that Idris Elba shall replace Will Smith as Deadshot. But it was later revealed that he will be playing the role of BloodSport.
What can we expect from the movie?
The director said to Empire Magazine:
“In The Suicide Squad, some of the characters end up being good, some end up being terrible. They don’t just get in fights and say they’re going to kill each other, they actually do get in fights and kill each other. You really don’t know who’s going to live and who’s going to die. I was given full freedom to kill anyone – and I mean anyone – by DC.”
The Suicide Squad is said to be out in the theatres on August 6th, 2021.
