WB Games has finally announced its new Harry Potter RPG game- Hogwarts Legacy. The studio has clarified that the game is based on the novels, but J.K. Rowling isn’t directly involved in its production.
Her comments are transphobic
J.K. Rowling has recently come under fire due to some of her beliefs that are considered transphobic. She has commented on various things about gender, which aren’t right. And furthermore, in her Cormoran Strike mystery novels, the plot points are quite transphobic in nature. Actors such as Eddie Redmayne, Emma Watson, and Daniel Radcliffe has publicly disagreed with her statement. Some book stores have even stopped selling Harry Potter books in the form of protest.
So, amidst all this WB clarified that J.K. Rowling isn’t directly involved in the game. The game is based on her creation but is not an adaptation of one of her books. However, WB has not said anything about whether Rowling will receive royalties for this game or not. But its quite obvious that she will be receiving those.
Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1800s- a time period that has not been explored in any of the Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts books.
The game has been in development for a long time
Hogwarts Legacy has been in development for quite a while now. There was a major leak about this game back in 2018, but WB didn’t say anything about it until now. The game is developed by Avalanche Studios and is published by WB games under the Portkey Games label.
